Japanese billionaire seeks girlfriend for joint trip to the moon via TV show

Billionaire Yusaku Maezawa decided to use a TV show to find the love of his life, with whom he will travel to the moon as the first space tourist for Ilon Musk’s company. Applications will be accepted until January 17

Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has launched a competition for girls: he is looking for a girlfriend, with whom he would like to tie life and go to the moon together as space tourists. The billionaire wrote about it in Twitter. The search for a girlfriend for a billionaire will become a TV show, which will show the Japanese streaming service AbemaTV.

Maezawa has a long-held dream of going to space and wants to visit “such a special place with someone special,” the project page states. Maezawa has invited single girls over the age of 20 to participate, and they must be “bright personalities” and “always remain positive.” Applicants must be interested in space and be able to participate in the preparation for the flight. There are two other conditions: the girl must “want to enjoy life to the fullest” and desire world peace.

Applications will be accepted until 10 a.m. Japanese time (4 a.m. Moscow time) Jan. 17 on the show’s Web site. By mid-February, the organizers will select the nominees, who will then have a one-on-one date with Maezawa. How many girls will get that opportunity is not specified. In mid-March, there should be additional dates to get to know the billionaire better, and he should announce his decision at the end of March.

Maezawa himself said that at the age of 44, he is restarting his life. “While the feeling of loneliness and emptiness is slowly beginning to overtake me, I’m thinking about one thing: continuing to love one woman. Although others take it for granted, I still haven’t been able to do so,” the billionaire wrote in a statement on the show’s website. Maezawa added that he has “fuzzy” ideas about the ideal woman, and as part of the program, he wants to find a “life partner” with whom he will “loudly declare their love and world peace” from outer space.

Maezawa will be the first space tourist to be taken to the moon by Ilon Musk’s company SpaceX. He will also be the first non-professional astronaut to orbit a satellite. The entire flight, as reported by SpaceX, will take about a week. The launch is scheduled for 2023. The cost of the flight was not disclosed.

Maezawa founded Japan’s largest online clothing store, Zozotown. In September, it was bought by Yahoo Japan (part of SoftBank Group) for a total of $3.7 billion. According to Forbes Real-Time Real-Time ranking, Maezawa is 1309th on the list of the richest people in the world with a fortune of $2 billion.

On December 31, Maezawa pledged to draw $9 million from his Twitter followers. To participate, you had to retweet the message. A randomly selected 1,000 winners would each receive 1 million yen ($9,000). Maezawa called it a social experiment: the effect the money would have on the lives of the winners would be tracked through regular surveys.
